Diwali, signifies Rama’s homecoming, that is his return to Ayodhya after the defeat of Ravana and his coronation as king and the festival honors Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
People celebrate this festival with religious and a social occasion with visiting relatives and friends, exchange of sweets and food items, and a time of giving and receiving new clothes or utensils for the year.

Deepawali or Diwali is certainly the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals.
It’s the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that’s marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy.
